Herbert B. Drees, 90, formerly State Center

Herbert B.Drees, 90, passed away on Wednesday, May 22nd.   On Thursday, June 20, 2019, visitation will be from 4-7pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton, Iowa with the Wake at 7 pm.  The funeral will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Templeton.  Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, IA will be helping with the arrangements.   Condolences can be sent to Carol Drees, 4350 E. Herb was born on the family farm in Templeton, IA to Henry Drees and Marie (Sextro) Drees. He was the oldest of 5 children and attended Sacred Heart catholic school. He graduated from the Carroll, IA high school. Herb joined the Army and served in Korea until he was wounded. When he was discharged he returned home to help farm. He was a proud member of the DAV, a 60 year member of the American Legion where he was a commander and a past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Herb met his love when she and her mom came to pick apples on the farm. Carol L (Drake) Drees is from Coon Rapids, IA; about 20 miles from the farm. He courted her about a year and when he was 27 and she 21 they married. They were happily married. Herb passed away just days before their 64th anniversary. Herb, Carol and family moved from Iowa to Wisconsin then back to Iowa to settle in State Center, IA where they have many friends. After Herb retired they wintered in San Juan, TX.

Herb is survived by his wife Carol; children Pam, Audrey, Kirk, Lisa and Eric, his brothers Dean Drees and James Drees and sister Joan Bauer. Herb has 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
