Robert Edger Scott was born October 18, 1926 in State Center, Iowa. He was the son of W. E. and Elva (Osterson) Scott.
Robert attended school in State Center graduating with the class of 1944. He was drafted into the United States Army and served overseas in the Philippine Islands. After the war with Japan ended, he returned home in 1946. He did the farming on his family’s farm plus working for neighbors who were farmers too. On August 8, 1950 Robert was united in marriage to Dorothy Drew at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshalltown. They lived on a farm north of Clemons where Robert was employed until March of 1951. Robert and Dorothy moved to a farm near Ferguson and started farming with Dorothy’s parents. They both became very involved in farming and community activities. They have two children, David (Charisse) Scott and Kathleen Scott (Van) Switzer. When the children were younger, the community had no baseball field. So Robert used a field of his farm and built a baseball diamond. Over the years the community helped out and today the Ferguson Ball Field is very popular and busy all summer long.
Left to cherish his memory is his caring wife of 66 years, Dorothy; son David (Charisse) Scott of Ferguson; daughter Kathleen (Van) Switzer of Conrad; grandchildren: Michael (Paige) Scott, Heather (Eric) Peterson, Kay Switzer and Ted Switzer; and great-grandchild Matthew Robert Scott.
In death he rejoins his parents, two sisters, brother, and brother-in-law Donald Drew.
