Beverly “Bev” Nusbaum, 92, Marshalltown
Beverly “Bev” Nusbaum, 92, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Embers of Marshalltown.
Services for Bev will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 beginning at 11:00 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi St. Mary Catholic Church. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a vigil to begin at 7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Bev Nusbaum (Stice) was born in Marshalltown, Iowa to Arthur and Geraldine (Elliott) Stice on July 28, 1931. She was an only child. Bev attended Glick School, Miller Junior High, and graduated from Marshalltown High School in the class of 1949. She followed additional education at Marshalltown Business College (MCC). She worked her first job as a receptionist at the college a few days a week and obtained a second job at the dollar store across from Kresge’s. She worked odd jobs on and off but her primary Job was raising her four children.
Bev was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Nusbaum on December 30, 1951 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. In their first years of marriage, Bob and Bev moved place to place with the Air Force, Massachusetts. Not too long after he was transferred to Alaska. They spent two and a half years in Alaska and had their first child. Their next move was to Alabama and Bev worked at home raising now two children. Bev and Bob returned to Marshalltown in 1955 and lived in the same house for 63 years after raising four children. Over the years Bev spent seven years working in the housekeeping department of a Marshalltown hotel as a means of part time work after the children were grown.
Bev is a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown and the CCW group with St. Mary. In her free time, Bev and Bob did many road trip vacations with her family. In addition, Bev loved following her grandchildren’s sports, traveling to Florida and California with Bob, watching Western TV shows and movies, collecting Santa figurines and listening to Westlife Albums. She was an avid sports fan following Iowa, Iowa State, Golden State Warriors, and the Atlanta Braves. She collected stuffed animals especially penguins and the solar sun wobblers. Bev had a large heart and always was sure to make sure current and distant family members were remembered and always made sure that their spaces at the cemetery had new flowers for every season.
She is survived by her children, Rick (Pam) Nusbaum, Becky Mastoris, Robert (Paula) Nusbaum and Gary (Tisha) Nusbaum; her grandchildren, Amy Brown, Jennifer (Abe) Kellison, Toshia (BJ) Arends, Jason (Ashley) Nusbaum, Trent (Jamie) Nusbaum, Adam (Sara) Nusbaum, Betsy Nusbaum, Kayla Mastoris Taneé (Jake) Taylor and Tyler (Jules) Nusbaum; Thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; alongside a brother-in-law Dick Nusbaum, sisters-in-law, Laurie Nusbaum, Esther Nusbaum, and Nan Lang.
Bev is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Nusbaum; her son-in-law, Mike Mastoris; her parents, Arthur Stice and Geraldine Sims; her brothers-in-law, Jim Nusbaum and Marvin Ricketts and her sister-in-law, Pat Ricketts.
