Eloise Pfantz Severidt, 96, formerly of State Center

Eloise Pfantz Severidt, 96, entered her eternal home on July 31, 2023 at Calvin Community.

Born on November 8, 1926 on her parents’ farm in rural State Center, Iowa, Eloise was the daughter of Arthur and Leona Pfantz. She was the youngest of two children born of this union.

Eloise married Donald Severidt on November 24, 1947. Together they farmed near Rhodes, Iowa. After farming for twenty years they and their three sons moved to State Center.

Eloise was a homemaker and also worked as a medical secretary at the local doctor’s office. Eloise enjoyed gardening and baking. She kept a generous supply of homemade bread and chocolate chip cookies in her pantry. Her sons estimate that she probably baked over 50,000 chocolate chip cookies. Her homemade dill pickles were eagerly awaited by family every summer.

Eloise was active in Ladies Aide at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Marshall County where she was a member for much of her life.

Eloise was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Donald, her parents, Arthur and Leona, her brother Kenneth, her granddaughter Mary Kathryn Severidt, her great-grandson Nathan William Severidt, and many extended family members.

She is survived by her three sons: Dr. Larry (Linda) Severidt of Des Moines, Iowa, Dr. Dean (Cindy) Severidt of Dallas, Texas and Dan (Elizabeth) Severidt of Adel, Iowa; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

A private burial for immediate family will be held at Hillside Cemetery in State Center.

A family-led Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 5 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at Faith Lutheran Church in Adel, Iowa.

The family thanks Dr. Yogesh Shah, Dr. Dana Danley and Dr. Bob Bender for the care given to Eloise. The family also thanks all of the dedicated nurses and support staff at Calvin Community, and the staff of Suncrest Hopsice.

Memorials may be directed to Calvin Community or Mission Central of Mapleton, Iowa.
