Margaret “Meg” Lechnir, 85, State Center

Margaret ‘Meg’ Lechnir, 85 of State Center passed away on Monday, April 24th, 2023. Meg was born on June 16, 1937 in Fountain, MN. One of five siblings Meg grew up on her parents’ farm in Fountain. She was a graduate of Winona State University and Clarke College and spent her career in education. She retired from the Marshalltown Community School District in 2004. Meg married Robert ‘Bob’ Lechnir on August 22, 1964 in Fountain, MN. Together they raised three children, Julie, Rob and Jon. Meg was a devoted and loving, wife, mother and grandmother who cherished spending time with her family and sharing stories. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. A Memorial service will be held on June 16, 2023 at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Eastman, WI. Online condolences may be sent to Left to cherish her memory are daughter Julie Lechnir of Pine City, MN; son, Rob Lechnir of State Center, IA; son Jon Lechnir (Shelley) of State Center, IA and two grandchildren, Michael and Molly Lechnir. She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Elsie Walsh; husband Robert Lechnir, son in law Dave Defenbaugh.

    I am responding to your family loss. Margret was a large part of my life as a child. My sister introduced me to
    horseback riding, making big snowmen and some treats for eating. One treat being a chicken gizzard sandwich!

    I pray that she is at rest and peace.
