Carey was born on March 11, 1962 in Marshalltown, Iowa to parents Gordon and Kay (Borgerson) Burke. Carey graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1980. Later she attended classes at Indian Hills and obtained her degree in mortuary science at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC).
She was united in marriage to Rick Roberts on April 22, 1986 in Nevada, Iowa. The couple first lived in State Center and moved to Tracy, Iowa, in 1999, where they have since called home. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Carey worked hard and held several roles over her lifetime. In her early years she worked at a clothing store, JBS-Swift and Pella Corp. She was an EMT and worked for the Bussey Fire Department for a time. Later she completed her Mortuary Sciences practicum at Mitchell Family Funeral Home and her internship in Burlington, Iowa. Most recently, she was employed at the Knoxville Post Office.
Carey was very crafty and talented. While working in the funeral industry, she would design and create themes for individuals that were nothing short of perfection. Currently she owned and operated her own bracelet-making business called The Secret Raven. Carey simply loved helping people. She also greatly enjoyed taking pictures of everything: snow, sunrises and sunsets, the sky and many many photos of her grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Rick; her children: Vincent Steward (Shelly Newton) of Marshalltown, IA, Logun Roberts (Keri Carter) of Knoxville, IA and Noël Roberts (Collin Dauwen) of Van Meter, IA; five precious grandchildren: Wyatt, Payson, Sawyere, Tucker and Nora; her parents: Gordon and Kay Burke of Marshalltown, IA; sister-in-law Nancy Burke of Marshalltown, IA; brother-in-law Davin (Jacqueline) Roberts of West Des Moines, IA; niece Darby (Charles) Peterson of Apache Junction, AZ and nephew Branif (Caeling) Burke of Dewitt, IA; lots of fur grandbabies and many, many friends.
In eternal life, she is reunited with her grandparents: Orville and June Borgerson and William and Lilly Burke; and her brother, Brian “Scotty” Burke.
