Joann Hartwig, 90, of State Center, formerly of Colo, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.
Funeral services for Joann will take place on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center, with burial following at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, February 16 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. For those unable to attend, the service will be available to view livestream at the Trinity Lutheran Church of State Center Facebook page. Born Lois Joann Becvar on January 10, 1931 at home in rural Colo, she was the daughter of Felix Frederick “Mike” and Lois Caroline (McIntosh) Becvar. Joann grew up in Colo and graduated from Colo High School with the class of 1949. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Nyle Richard Hartwig on June 25, 1950 at St. John Lutheran Church in State Center.
A dedicated wife and mother, Joann was hard-working and deeply loved her family. She was a skilled baker, especially known for her apple crisp, ginger snaps and brownies. Joann also worked at Spread-All Mfg for many years. Her hobbies included sewing, jigsaw puzzles and watching Wheel of Fortune. Joann loved everything outdoors, from spending time in her garden and tending flowers to camping and fishing. She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center. Described by her family as loving and caring, Joann will be deeply missed by all.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Richard (Gretchen) Hartwig, Russell (Jane) Hartwig, Ruth Ann (Mike) Bartine and Ronna (Arden) Greiner; grandchildren: Kerry (Brandi) Hartwig, Kelly (Daniel) Lindemeier, Allen Hartwig, Amy (Darren) Hess, Sam Hartwig, Grant Jones, J.D. Jones, Jeff (Sara) Bartine, Eric (Sarah) Bartine, David (Brooke) Greiner and Kristine Greiner; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings: Ruth Hinkle, Audre (Glen) Carlson, Billie Alfrey, Eileen (Jerry) Klonglan and Stan (Carol) Becvar; sisters-in-law: Natalie Becvar, Betty Weise and Ellen Becvar and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In death, Joann is reunited with her beloved husband of 67 years, Nyle; son, Ray Hartwig; grandsons: Michael Greiner and Matthew Hartwig; her parents: Mike and Lois; siblings: Bob Becvar, Harold Becvar, Dwight (Rita) Becvar, Ron Becvar and Dorothy Becvar; brothers-in-law: Phil Hinkle and Russ Alfrey and sister-in-law: Marge (Russ) Henze.
