Chad Allen Ritland, 51, Zearing

Chad Allen Ritland, 51, of Zearing, Iowa passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic in Iowa City, Iowa. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, IA from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. His memorial service will be on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathy Sandmann officiating. Burial will follow in the Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg.
Chad was born in Story City, IA on January 4, 1970 to Floyd and Doris (Pfantz) Ritland. He grew up on a farm outside of Zearing where he worked livestock and farmed with his family. He attended NESCO where he played baseball, basketball, and golf. He graduated with the NESCO class of 1988. Following high school, Chad attended Iowa Lakes Community College and then Iowa State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. After graduation Chad moved back to Zearing where he farmed with his dad and brother. He married Veronica Hendrikson on August 30, 2003 in Manley, Iowa. The couple had 3 girls and raised them right next door to the Ritland Family Farm. Chad was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. He had a great love for his family and enjoyed spending time with them and taking them for golf cart rides. Chad also enjoyed farming and tending his flock of sheep, gardening and sharing his produce with friends and neighbors, lifting weights, playing cards with friends, and fishing.
Those left to cherish his loving memory are his wife Veronica Ritland; daughters Elizabeth, Grace, and Katelyn Ritland; parents Floyd (Doris) Ritland; siblings Nicolette Mackey, Shelley (Greg) Friest, Perry (Judy) Ritland, and Susan (Blair) Beck; in-laws Dean (Deb) Hendrikson; brothers-in-law Aaron Hendrikson and Jason (Jody) Hackbart; many aunts and uncles; many nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; uncle Irvin Ritland; and aunt Jane Frohwein.
