Ricky Dean Poling, age 68, of Grundy Center, passed away on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Memorial services for “Rick” will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home West Marshall Chapel, 104 West Main Street, in State Center with Rev. Tom Bower officiating. Memorials may be directed in Rick’s name to his family. There will be no visitation prior to services. Born on November 6, 1950, at Woods Hospital in State Center, IA, he was the son of Kenneth Dale and Cleo Mae (Stock) Poling. He graduated from the West Marshall High School in 1970 and the University of Tennessee in 1981 with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree. Ricky was intrigued with computer science (a true computer guru!) he enjoyed gardening, he was a good cook and he made great cookies. Ricky was employed in security at the Minneapolis convention center.
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings: Allyn Poling of Fremont, NE, Sharon Abbas of Grundy Center, Ken “Butch” (Penny) Poling of Minneapolis, Carolee (Dennis) Volker of New Hampton, and LeaAnn Hitchings of State Center as well as numerous nieces, nephews and sister-in-law, Lois Poling.
In death, Ricky rejoined his parents, brothers: Jerry and Larry, as well as his four legged furry companion, “Gotto”.
