Thelma Lucile Smith, 101, of Clemons, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the Hubbard Care Center.
Funeral services for Thelma will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Clemons United Church of Christ in Clemons, Iowa. Thelma (Clark) Smith was born on October 16, 1917 to parents David “Earl” and Minnie (Thomas) Clark. She was educated in country schools and graduated from Liberty High School in Liberty Township. Thelma and Claude H. Smith were united in marriage on January 01, 1938 at the farm home of Earl and Minnie. The two farmed in the Clemons, Iowa area for a large part of their lives. She was a long time active member of the Clemons United Church of Christ, as well as the UCC Women’s Fellowship, a former 4-H club leader, and a previous member of the Liberty Friends Church. She loved caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and they enjoyed their summer vacations at Grandma’s home. She was a homemaker for her family and enjoyed canning food, cooking, baking, and sewing. In her free time she also enjoyed gardening and taking care of animals.
Thelma is survived by her children: Barbara J. Fiscus of Olathe, KS, David C. (Ellen) Smith of Geneseo, IL, Donald E. (Paula) Smith of Marshalltown, IA, Stephen A. (Sharon) Smith of St. Anthony, IA, and Kenneth W. (Kimberly) Smith of State Center, IA. Grandchildren: Scott (Shawn) Fiscus, Paul Fiscus, Sara (Andres) Trillo, Jeff (Danielle) Smith, Todd Smith, Kristine (Jeremiah) Bagwell, Cyrus (Dawn) Shepard, Kelli Hamblin, Brian (Tina Pieten) Smith, Karen (Jamie) Malloy, Eric (Sarah) Smith, Cindy (Ryan) Woebbeking, Andrew (Michelle) Smith, Jason (Elizabeth) Smith and Emilee (Evan) Jorgensen. She is also survived by twenty-six great-grandchildren; sister Lois Rasmusson; sister-in-law Charlene Smith and many nieces and nephews.
In death, Thelma rejoins her loving husband Claude, parents Earl and Minnie Clark, son-in-law Douglas Fiscus, granddaughter Kristi Beem, great-granddaughter Ananda Beem, and brothers Harold Clark and Wayne Clark.
