Barbara Lee Davis, 79, of State Center, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at the Israel Hospice Home in Ames.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 2, from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Services will be held on Monday, December 3, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural State Center with burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery, State Center.
Born Barbara Lee Scadden on June 4, 1939 in Huxley, Iowa to Carroll “Wray” and Pauline (Adams) Scadden, graduating from State Center High School in 1957. She furthered her education by obtaining both nursing aide and dietary aide degrees. On March 16, 1958, Barb was united in marriage to Richard Dwight Davis at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural State Center. To this union they had six children: Tamara, Peggy, Randy, Linda, Gary and Paula.
Barb worked for the Marshall County Care Facility as a cook until retiring. Community service and volunteering was a great joy for Barb, as she liked to help people and considered everyone her family and treated them as such. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. John’s Ladies Aide, 500 Card Club, volunteered with the election polling process, and never missed her children’s or grandchildren’s ball games. She enjoyed cooking, Iowa State Cyclone basketball, Chicago Cubs, old country/gospel music having attended multiple concerts, and was an avid collector of chickens, angels, and salt and pepper shakers. Barb’s most joy came from being with her family and friends.
Barbara is survived by her children: Peggy (Don) Schmidt of Rhodes, Randy (Laura) Davis of Jewell, Linda Wittmayer of Las Cruces, NM, Gary (Jill Merrill) Davis of Las Vegas, NV and Paula (Bruce) West of Unionville, MO; 11 grandchildren: Amber Fuchs, Casey Heller-Dehner, Trevor Guckert, Jeremy Guckert, Katie (Daniel) Gray, Zachary (Jennifer) Davis, Jessica (Jared) Franzenburg, Melissa (Nick) See, Chad Wittmayer, Cassidy (Tim) Larson and Ty (Dahn) West; 16 great- grandchildren with one on the way; brother, Bob (Janice) Scadden of Iowa Falls; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
Barb is preceeded in death by her husband, Richard Davis; daughter, Tamara Davis; parents, Wray and Pauline Scadden; sister, Judy Edler; and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
