Mary V. Goecke, 94, Marshalltown
Mary V. Goecke, 94, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away peacefully on February 14, 2018 at State Center Specialty Care in State Center, Iowa while under the care of Iowa River Hospice.
Funeral Services for Mary will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Marshalltown. There will be a Rosary at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a public visitation from 5 – 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234. Mary Viola Jay was born to Ralph C. and Nora “Bessie” Elizabeth (Drew) Jay on their St. Anthony farm on September 13, 1923. In 1941 she graduated from State Center High School. Mary went on to complete cosmetology school in Des Moines. She worked as a beautician in Marshalltown and Melbourne.
On November 22, 1945 Mary was married to Louis C. Goecke in State Center, Iowa. They raised three daughters and farmed near Clemons before moving to Marshalltown in 1986. Besides being a farm wife and a beautician, Mary enjoyed dancing, gardening, sewing, bowling, playing cards, rodeos and sports. She played basketball in high school and became an avid spectator at West Marshall sporting events.
Left to cherish Mary’s memory are two daughters, Linda Baker (Fred Zeller) and Mary Lou (Mike) Schau; seven grandchildren: Kylee (Mitch) Harris, DaLane (Kyle) Fox, Tyler (Jackie) Schau, Stephanie (Mike) Healey, Amy (Troy) Price, Kim (Travis) Hancock and Amy (Mike) Skinner. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
In death Mary rejoins her parents Ralph and Bessie, husband Louis, daughter Pam Schau, granddaughter Brandi Baker, son-in-law Darcen Krehbiel, and siblings Ruth Ann Anderson, Reba Bradbury and Howard Jay.
I always enjoyed Mary’s company. She, Marie Drew Guthrie, Albert Dunn and I enjoyed some tasty meals at the restaurant that used to exist in New Providence IA. May happy memories soothe your souls.
