Born Marilynn Kay Briney on June 9th, 1944, in
Marshalltown, she was the daughter of John and
Florence (Eggers) Briney. She attended school in
Walker, MN and graduated from the State Center High
School’s Class of 1962. She then attended AIB in Des
Moines before gaining employment at Fisher Controls
in Marshalltown until 1969.
Marilynn was united in marriage to the love of her
life, Daryl Schoppe, on January 25th, 1964, at
Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center. They
celebrated 50 wonderful years earlier this year.
State Center was always home, and Marilynn took many
roles – wife, mother (later grandma) and worked
full-time running the gun shop and the family
construction business. Some of her passions were
fishing (especially Devil’s Lake in North Dakota for
the past 6 years), hunting and prairie dog hunting,
but most of all time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are Daryl, her loving
husband of 50 years, three children: Dean (Maggie)
Schoppe and Dana Schoppe of State Center and Dawn
(John) Dierks of West Des Moines, her precious
grandchildren- Aaron and Ryan Schoppe and Emma
Dierks, brother Jim (Sharon) Briney of Rapid City,
South Dakota, sisters-in-law- Lola Schoppe and Donna
Schoppe of State Center and many friends.
In death, Marilynn rejoined her parents.
