Carol DeGrado

Carol DeGrado, 63, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at the Israel Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.

Funeral Services for Carol will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Jean Bower officiating. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2014 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home where her family will be present to greet friends. Carol Gruver was born on June 27, 1951, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Mildred Fern (Mumford) Gruver. She was raised and educated in the Marshalltown School district graduating from Marshalltown High School. Carol was united in marriage to the love of her life Jerry DeGrado on September 17, 1973, at the Bethel Grove Church. To this union two daughters were born: Michelle and Valerie.

Throughout her life, Carol ran the shipping Department for Cooper Manufacturing, sold Avon products for many years and was also a waitress at many local establishments. Carol had a passion for gardening, reading, building and selling ceramics, collecting beanie babies. She treasured her family and friends and was a stranger to no one.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters; Michelle (John) Fricke, and Valerie (Chad) Jones all of State Center; five grandchildren: Emily (Tony) Ruggiero and their baby boy Isaac, of Cedar Rapids, IA, Sherrie Elliott and her children; Karson and Kyra of State Center; SN Alexander DeGrado of the US Navy, New York; Gabe Jones, and Halle Jones, both at home; her siblings; Donald Gruver, Sharon (Dan) Propst, David Gruver and Gary (Karen) Gruver; also several Nieces and Nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry DeGrado, parents: Everett and Mildred Gruver; one brother: Ronald Gruver and Grace Wignall.
