Paul R. Goecke, 83, Marshalltown (formerly Union)

Paul R. Goecke, 83, of Marshalltown, formerly of Union, passed away peacefully at home, on the farm, surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 24, 2022 under the care of Iowa River Hospice.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Paul on Thursday, April 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Clemons United Church of Christ in Clemons. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Iowa River Hospice, Clemons United Church of Christ, or Tee Up To Beat Cancer. Born January 12, 1939 in Marshalltown, Paul was the son of Elmer and Helen (Lander) Goecke. After graduating from Clemons High School, he went on to attend Iowa Wesleyan University and Iowa State University. After meeting the love of his life, Alta Law, they were united in marriage on March 12, 1960 at the Clemons United Church of Christ, where they have been longtime members. Hard working, Paul dedicated many years to farming, as well as working as a crop adjuster for Dornberger-Berry, mechanic for Giannetto Inc., and machinist at Fisher Controls and KIOWA. He was a former member of 4H, Union-Whitten Jaycees and the Union-Whitten school board, as well as a of the Marshall County and Iowa Cattlemen’s Association. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR and attending races at the Newton Speedway and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 62 years, Alta; children: Todd Goecke, Randy (Lisa) Goecke, Ryan (Kim) Goecke, Robb (Diana) Goecke and Kristin (Michael) Bolus; grandchildren: Taran (Tad) Ruther, Lauren (Caleb) Whalen, Nicole (James) Phillips, Palmer Goecke, Caroline Goecke, Kate Goecke, Kaylee Goecke, Evan Knight, Colby Knight, Mackenzie Knight, Andre Bolus and Jean-Paul Bolus; and his great-grandchildren: Aubrey and Ava Ruther, Weston and Walker Whalen and Bowie Phillips. In eternal life, he is reunited with his parents; his sister, Judy Nichols; and in-laws, Harold and Bernadine Law.
