Mary Elizabeth (Goodman) Buggs, 50
Mary Elizabeth (Goodman) Buggs, 50, beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, passed away on October 18, 2019 in Long Beach, California, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Mary was born on May 5, 1969 in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Donald and Judith Goodman.
The fifth of seven children, Mary grew up in State Center, Iowa, and was a 1987 graduate of West Marshall High School, where she was known as a fierce competitor and an all-state athlete. After high school, she earned her degree in Exercise Science at Iowa State University, and while working as a recruiter’s aide for the Cyclone football program, she met her future husband, Andrew John Buggs. After graduation and marriage, they returned to his native Southern California to raise four beautiful children, Drew(22) Chloe (18) Lily ( 16) and Luke (14). Mary devoted herself to Andrew, her children, and the many activities of their busy family. She continued her passion for athletics by cheering on her children, and also by coaching soccer, track and basketball for Tincher Preparatory School in Long Beach.
A committed volunteer and friend, Mary was active in her community and her children’s schools. She loved nothing more than being a wife and mother and will be deeply missed.
Mary is preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, the Reverend David and Mavis Buggs,and her brother-in-law, Nathaniel Buggs. Left to honor her memory are her husband, Andrew, and their children, Drew, Chloe, Lily, and Luke, her parents, Donald and Judy Goodman, brothers Greg Goodman(Stephanie) and Paul Goodman (Barb),sisters Peggy Hotopp (Mike) Patty Hoff (Alan) Jennifer Anderson (Charlie) Erin Maloney (Joe) and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2nd, at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Church in State Center, Iowa.
