Marian K. Flora, 84, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at the Iowa River Hospice Home, in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2016, at First Baptist Church, in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. until the time of the services at the church. Marian was born July 19, 1931 to James and Bertha (Michaelson) Greenfield, in Jewell, IA. She graduated from Kamrar High School in 1949. She received her B.S. from Drake University in 1966. Marian was united in marriage to James “Jim” N. Flora on August 2, 1957, in Kamrar, IA. She was an elementary school teacher in Blairsburg, IA and then spent over 30 years in the West Marshall School District, retiring in 1991. After retirement, Marian was an elementary substitute teacher and worked part time for the Marshall County Election. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the American Baptist Women. Marian was also a member of the Marshall County Republican Women’s Association, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and the Red Hat Society.
Marian will be missed by her three children, Jay ( Tammy) Flora of Marshalltown, Jan (Joe) Welty of Frederick, MD, Jill (Jon) Brockman of Marshalltown; eight grandchildren, Tara ( Casey) Trine, Jenny (Brandon) Vinzant , Sam (Lauri) Brockman, Jenna (Tom Brix) Brockman, Olivia, Meredith, and Joseph Welty; five great grandchildren, Jacie, Kamry, and Eden Trine, Kayli and Elsie Brockman. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Bonnie Greenfield and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; brother, Roy Greenfield; and sister, Betty Terpstra.
