Jimmie “Jim” Estel Purvis, 77, of Marshalltown, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Hawkeye Care Center in Marshalltown.

Memorial services for Jim will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at 12:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. Jimmie Purvis was born on October 29, 1938 in Jefferson, Iowa to Floyd and Velma Roosa Purvis. Jim was educated in the Marshalltown school district. On December 11, 1957, Jim was united in marriage to Darlene Hauser at the Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Jim was employed with Fisher Control for 35 years, retiring in 1995. After retirement, Jim continued to work for Wal Mart in maintenance, Timber Creek Sod Farm and Rainbow Car Wash. Jim was a member of the Moose Lodge, Corn Belt CB Club and the UAW. He enjoyed wood working, deer hunting and was always able to fix things. Jim and Darlene also loved to square dance.

Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Darlene. Children: Diana Purvis of Marshalltown, Annette (William) Fleming of State Center and Greg (Debbie) Purvis of Marshalltown. Grandchildren: Crystal (James) West, Marshall (Jennifer) Fleming, Michael (Kathy Haaker) Fleming, Marcus Fleming, Ryan (Jamie Blue) Storjohann and Mitchell (Andrea) Storjohann. He is also survived by his fifteen grandchildren with one on the way and one great great grandchild.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Velma, sisters Karen Tuttle and Judy Purvis and a son in infancy; Craig.
